Farage wrote that Carswell, UKIP's only MP, should be ejected from the party, saying:

"As a party, how can we let a man represent us in the House of Commons who actively and transparently seeks to damage us? I think there is little future for UKIP with him staying inside this party. The time for him to go is now.”
It followed a row over the party's efforts to secure a knighthood or a peerage for Farage. In e-mails leaked to the Telegraph, Carswell appeared to mock Farage, saying he should be given an honour "for services to headline writers".
