Did President Barack Obama put wiretaps on Donald Trump's phones during the US election?
President Trump has tweeted claims that Obama tapped Trump's phone during the election. Obama's spokesman has denied it, and the former US director of national intelligence, James Clapper, has said it didn't happen. The director of the FBI, James Comey, has also said it did not happen. If the phones of Trump or his associates were tapped, it would not have been a decision for President Obama, however - it could only have happened legally if a judge in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court had been convinced there was due cause to order the tapping to take place. Clapper denied that this had happened either.
