Who thought of celebrating Pi Day on the 14th of March?

In countries where dates are written in the format MM/DD, such as the US, 3/14 signifies March 14th, and has been adopted as Pi Day because it's almost the same as 3.14. The original idea is believed to have started with physicist Larry Shaw, who worked in the San Francisco Exploratorium, a science museum, in 1988.
