Is longtime MP Kenneth Clarke standing for election at Rushcliffe at the general election on June 8? #generalelection
Yes. Mr Clarke's office issued a statement saying:
"He's putting himself forward to be the Conservative candidate for Rushcliffe in June."
Mr Clarke is 76, and had announced he would not be standing at the scheduled 2020 general election. In February he told the Times:
"My children keep asking me what I’m going to do. There will be my cricket, my football but birdwatching, unfortunately, I can’t do so much of because I’m getting lame."
